Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, the Senior Financial Aid Counselor will assist with the general management of the College's financial aid programs.  These programs provide over 14 million dollars annually to approximately 4,000 students.  This position is responsible for providing financial aid services to students as well as helping to ensure that financial aid funds are awarded in accordance with financial aid regulations and institutional policies.

DUTIES:

  1. Assist with the general management of the College's financial aid programs.
  2. Assist in developing/updating financial aid office policies and procedures.
  3. Interview/counsel students (and parents) applying for financial aid.
  4. Conduct on-campus and off-campus workshops and presentations.
  5. Take responsibility for reviewing, verifying and awarding a caseload of financial aid applicants.
  6. Determine type/amounts of financial aid to offer based on formulas and individual situations and award aid packages to eligible students.
  7. Coordinate certain state financial aid grant programs including: MASSGrant, John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, GEAR-UP Program, Foster Child Grant, Adopted/Foster Child Tuition and Fee Waivers, Paraprofessional Teacher Preparation Grant, Educational Rewards Grant, Early Childhood Educators Scholarship.
  8. Monitor outside resources checking for negative unmet need and re-calculate aid packages, when necessary.
  9. Design, update and distribute financial aid informational brochures, newsletters and other consumer information.
  10. Assist classified staff by helping them resolve problems and by providing periodic training on financial issues.
  11. Attend meetings and serve on committees.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Education, Business Administration, Accounting, Human Services or closely related field with two years experience and/or training involving financial aid operations; Strong commitment to a student-centered approach; Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Bilingual (English/Spanish); Experience working with SCT/Banner software; Community College work experience.

COMPENSATION:  Salary Range: $45,940 - $56,000, plus a comprehensive State benefits package. 

STARTING DATE:  December, 2009
